Released just in time for summer, and sequenced to appear as two playful aural collages, ‘dayside’ and ‘starryside’, the sixteen song debut from Manchester lo-fi maverick’s P.A.U.L. is a rare breed: light, spooked, moody and sprawling.

Opening with the spoken word ‘Your August May Last Forever If You Cannot Autumn Your Mind’ and continuing on into the quantum-mechanical obsessed love song ‘Folding’, the band sing, play and lark about whilst conjuring images of green fields, fractals, time-travel sequences and long hot afternoons followed by bright balmy evenings.

Marvel at the flickering sunshine pop of ‘Girl Up A Tree On A Swing’, the throbbing bad-dream electronica of ‘Sly Bastard Universe’ and the joyous cacophony that is ‘The Skylight! The Ladder! The Stars!’ or swoon to the final beautiful ode to sympathetic pregnancy ‘Couvade’…
